The short version

Who we are

Dread of the Deep is made by Boosted Bytes LLC ("we", "us"). We decide what data the game collects and how it is used. You can contact us about anything in this policy at contact@boostedbytesgames.com.

1. Run statistics (optional, off by default)

The first time you reach the main menu, the game asks whether you want to share anonymous run data. Nothing is sent unless you choose Share anonymous data. You can change your answer at any time in Settings > Data.

If you agree, the game sends one report when each run ends. A report contains:

We use this to balance the game: to find weapons and items that are too strong or too weak, and difficulties that are unfair.

A report never contains your name, Steam account or ID, email, hardware, location or any device identifier. Reports do not contain an ID that links your runs together. However, the "runs finished before" count means that reports sent one after another from the same game could sometimes be recognised as coming from the same player. They still cannot be traced to who that player is.

If a report cannot be sent (for example, you are offline), the game saves it on your computer and tries again later. If you turn sharing off, any reports waiting to be sent are deleted and never sent.

2. Feedback and bug reports (only when you send them)

The in-game Feedback panel sends a message only when you press Send or Report bug. This is separate from the run-statistics setting, because pressing the button is your choice to send it. A report contains:

Please don't include personal details such as your email or real name in your message unless you want us to have them. Anything you type is stored as you wrote it.

3. How the data travels and where it is kept

Reports are sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to a service we run on Cloudflare. Like any internet service, Cloudflare necessarily sees your IP address in order to deliver the request. Our service does not record or store your IP address. Cloudflare acts as our service provider and handles network data under its own privacy policy.

Reports are kept in Cloudflare storage for up to 30 days, then copied to a private server operated by us in the United States. There they are used to build our internal balancing and bug-tracking tools, which only we can access.

Retention. Run statistics are anonymous and are kept for as long as they are useful for balancing the game. Feedback and bug reports are kept for one year, then deleted.

4. Why we're allowed to process it (EU/UK visitors)

5. Your choices and rights

6. What stays on your computer

Your save files, settings and local run history are stored only on your device, or in Steam Cloud if you use it. We do not receive them.

7. Steam

If you play through Steam, Valve handles your purchase, account, playtime and achievements under the Steam Privacy Policy. The game does not send your Steam name or ID to us.

8. What we don't do

We share data only with the service providers named above, or if the law requires it.

9. This website

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other companies. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which, like any web host, receives your IP address to deliver the pages to you.

10. Children

The game is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information in a feedback message, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change what the game collects, we will update this page and its effective date before the change ships.
